Banning unions

One of the first things fascists and dictators do once they've consolidated power is ban unions. When you're trying to exploit people for fun and profit, the last thing you want is for them to use strength in numbers.

Of course unions aren't forbidden in the U.S.A, not in the Land of the Free, surely?

They are. Hundreds of thousands of salaried workers are forbidden by the Taft-Hartley Act from forming unions. And there are moves to expand the scope of the Act, banning even more workers from collective bargining.

See the Daily Kos for further details, and the history of the Act.
