McCain and Bush, together at last

Mark Kleiman at The Reality Based Community seems to be (not very) surprised to discover that Senator John McCain is playing nice with Team Bush.

Well duh. Of course he is. You don't get to become a serious contender for the leadership of any political party, let alone the Republican Party, by being an honest, ethical human being. The other politicans would eat you up before breakfast. Sure, the ability to give the illusion of decency, ethics, fairness and all those other things are important. Now that Bush and McCain are no longer rivals for the presidency, there is no longer any need to pretend that McCain and Bush are anything but natural allies.
